Heather Haward

Heather Haward opened The Company Shed in the late 1980s, primarily as a weekend venture, selling fish from local boats, and the world renowned oysters produced by her husband Richard. At the start she sold crab, prawns and shrimps out of the window and this eventually evolved into her serving cold platters and oysters inside the Shed.

The restaurant has grown over the years in size, popularity and offering. You can now order a spectacular array of hot food, cold food and alcoholic beverages.

Richard Haward

Internationally renowned chefs such as Rick Stein and Jay Rayner have praised the restaurant and it has been recognised in the Times, the Guardian and Independent as being one of the best fish restaurants to experience.

The overwhelming success of The Company Shed has led to Heather opening another restaurant on the east side of the island, Mehalah's. This restaurant is managed by her son, Tom and is fast gaining a reputation as one of the best restaurants on the island.

Caroline Haward

The Company Shed is totally unpretentious, which is part of its charm. It does, however, have:

  • toilet facilities
  • table cloths
  • napkins (OK, these are kitchen roll, but they do the job!)
  • condiments: including mayonnaise and garlic mayonnaise
  • wine
  • beer
  • cutlery: including crab crackers and a prong for picking out the white meat!

All we ask is that you bring some bread, if you want it. You can also bring your own wine, if we cannot tempt you with our delicious selection of local wines.

Heather is now semi-retired and her daughter Caroline manages the business. The business is still firmly in the family and maintaining Heather's ethos to, 'keep it simple.’
